A wistful teddy bear plays a role in each of the 29 canvases in Bear on a Hot Tin Roof, a series of mixed-media work by Vincent Sabella. The artist digs deep into a difficult childhood of hallucinations and hearing voices and the ensuing fears that these experiences brought about. Diagnosed at the age of 17 with schizophrenia, Sabella draws upon his life experience to give a voice to his creativity. He incorporates text - single words or fragments from work by Tennessee Williams - into colourful collages of street-influenced art.
