As part of Hard Twist 5: Chroma, the Gladstone Hotel's fifth annual juried show of textile-based art, Mafalda Silva's stitched photos were an expression of a softer side of colour and fibres. The subtleties of black and white photography are reflected in Silva's choice of forest offerings, delicately stitched in jewel tones. Like hints of sunlight caught in the leaves, the embroidered sections add dimension and voice to what could have remained a silent corner of the woods.
