Chernobyl by Diana Thater
Diana Thater, who uses the post-nuclear Chernobyl landscape as the focus of her work, features a rare breed of horse in a new video installation. The Przewalski horse once faced extinction, but now roams at will through the Zone of Alienation, the one-hundred mile wide radioactive area, a wilderness created by man's mischief. As a backdrop to the video, Thater uses architecture falling into ruin in the city of Prypiat where the nuclear plant workers once lived. Catastrophe drives man out, letting the animals into a now irradiated space.
