Acrylic, gouache, coloured pencil, mineral and lac pigments on paper are the ingredients of recent work by New York-based Julie Evans and Indian miniaturist Ajay Sharma. After meeting in Jaipur in 2003, the pair worked on a series of eight collaborative works over a period of eight weeks. Evans shares the process on her website, where various paintings are shown at different stages. The results are intricate and colourful works that are abstract-narrative hybrids, both bold and delicate at the same time.
