Lucky is a series of comics by Gabrielle Bell that follows the days in the life of a young cartoonist living in Brooklyn. The trials and tribulations of being an artist in an expensive city where affordable, decent housing is hard to come by are documented simply, as are job-related issues. Black ink illustrations are spare, detailed to a point, yet very expressive. The stories skim the surface of the artist's life, giving us a glimpse of "the mundane details of her below-minimum wage, twenty-something existence." Lucky is easily consumed in a single sitting, but best savoured so as to clamour for more.
