It came as a surprise to learn that Joan Thorne has been exhibiting for over thirty years, as her recent paintings have such a freshness about them that there is an easy flow between timelessness and the here and now. Bold brushstrokes and vivid colour are combined in "metaphysical abstraction" that reflect the poetry of the artist's life experience. There is a tropical feel to these pieces and a sensuous musicality derived from the movement in the compositions and textures.
