Woven Car by Ann Conte & Jeanne Wiley
Thanks to an invitation from DuPont to DesignPhiladelphia last week, we were able to meet Ann Conte and Jeanne Wiley. These two Massachusetts artists worked together to transform a rusted MG Midget that was being used to store firewood in a neighbour's backyard into a woven car that is home to sprouting ceramic flowers. A weave of seat belt webbing forms the car's slick new surface and the DuPont Corian recycled Terra product was used for the seats. The women tend towards ceramics and sculpture, but after this first transport-oriented large-scale piece will be tackling a boat caught in the tentacles of an octopus.
