Aomori by Choi Jeong Hwa
Choi Jeong Hwa's huge installations of everyday objects are a reflection of the growing absence of nature and society's adoption of new less natural materials as a replacement. Common plastic baskets used for laundry or washing vegetables are often part of this Korean artist's installations, and the bright green hue is a further symbol of nature. Consumerism and the juxtaposition of natural and artificial may be serious themes, but there is also an obvious joy present in his works, as demonstrated by the sheer burst of colour from familiar materials.
