There is an old-fashioned flavour to some of the recent paintings on wood by San Francisco artist Jeremy Fish, where themes of travel mix with notions of identity and the tree keepers keep watch. Fish's detailed work provides plenty of scope for narrative, as miniature travellers and transport take the place of heads while sitting securely within the tidy collars of the appropriate outfits. The works are rich in detail, and though the colours are few, they are well-chosen, adding depth and sharpness to the pieces.
