Lilium by Marco Mazzoni
by sabine7 / August 24, 2010

With the magic of coloured pencil, Marco Mazzoni creates mysterious botanical portraits. Although the blooms that frame the subjects' faces can be identified easily, some facial features appear to have faded into oblivion. Only nose, lips and chin remain to project or hint at quiet expressions. Have the flowers and butterflies been left as stand-ins for eyes or veiled tears? The colours are rich and bold, yet the shading is subtle, in keeping with the tone.
