Lindsey Carr's world is one inhabited by foxes, monkeys, birds, eels and the King of Fairyland (who looks to be either extremely contemplative or down in the dumps). Carr's delightful paintings are rich in texture and detail, perfect on their own or easily imagined as illustrations for some even deeper narrative. Colours are soft and dreamy, or jewel-toned, with a lovely emphasis on greens and reds. Carr's flora and fauna are quietly elegant rather than cute, and the proof just might be the fact that quite a few are sporting crowns.
