New York artist Chris Schiavo worked on The Backyard series of photographs over a span of 12 years on-site in Queens, New York. Schiavo manipulates the locations by playing with light, shadows, brights, exaggerated flora and fauna, props and people to build tableaus based on childhood memories and a present day desire to build upon nostalgia. The viewer wants to believe that these scenes are sunny glimpses into reality - and they are, for how much of our reality is carefully constructed anyway?
