Marjan van Aubel has developed a foam porcelain that expands more than three times its original size while in the kiln. This creates a lighter product while using one third of the material. At the same time, the product is strong, despite appearances, thanks to its open structure. The material rises like bread in the kiln and takes on aspects that the artist cannot control, thereby ensuring that each piece is unique. These pieces were shown at the Tuttobene exhibition in Milan this year.
