At first glance, one may well wonder how dry a book like this could be. But Lists: To-dos, Illustrated Inventories, Collected Thoughts, and Other Artists' Enumerations by Liza Kirwin is the ultimate in trivial ephemera, and that can be quite fascinating to those who love to delve into any available minutiae. What is wonderful about this compilation of lists is that it covers inventories of a wide variety of topics by artists and others in the art world. Personal favorites include Eero Saarinen enumeration of second wife Aline Bernstein's qualities, Charles Green Shaw's list that makes up a complete poem, a visual packing list by Adolf Konrad and a list of responses in a letter from Lee Krasner. Other list-makers include Picasso, Alexander Calder and Harry Bertoia.
