Papa by Hal Ingberg
Montreal artist and architect Hal Ingberg, known for his installations of work with coloured and reflective glass, was commissioned to create a dynamic piece of public art in Canada's National Capital Region. Entitled Papa (is this a counterpoint to Louise Bourgeois' Maman on the other side of the bridge?), the peaked structure is made up of a series of coloured glass panels that light up an otherwise ordinary intersection. Ingberg says, "My hope is that Papa will enable residents and visitors to share a dynamic experience at both the scale of the automobile and that of the individual- a visual happening that if only momentarily, returns us to a child's capacity for wonder."
