A fascination with the social implications of the ubiquitous white collar has led Lun*na Menoh to a body of work entitled A Ring Around the Collar, Musicians. Menoh explores this aspect of status through clothing in her paintings of iconic rock stars, further highlighting her focus by eliminating their heads. These paintings, described as non-portraits, are of musicians such as Jimi Hendrix (above), The Beatles, David Bowie, James Brown and Johnny Rotten. Mostly black and white and shades of grey, the paintings might not feature the heads of the artists, but the soiled collars impart a sense of vulnerability and the very human nature of it all.
