In the contemporary art world, there is a whole race of big-headed people with childlike features who are supported by impossibly tiny bodies and often the strangest of goings-on. Some of these people inhabit the canvases of Joe Sorren, an Arizona-based painter and sculptor who thinks nothing of offering up marshmallow monsters who gorge on toast or a pair of floating foetuses that hovers above onlookers of varying degrees of curiosity. Others are at more tranquil stages of their existence, preferring instead to build along the shore or watch the morning tide. Very calming work.
