Looking Back by Anne Siems
by sabine7 / November 12, 2009

Influenced by a fondness for European Masters as well as Early American folk art, Anne Siems creates tableaux of precisely painted subjects who wear detailed yet transparent clothes. Their features and limbs are as they should be, but the exquisite garments might be the sort coveted by the Emperor, on a search for new clothes. This fanciful technique lends the paintings a lightness and keeps them from being stiff or formal, as the backgroundstyle might suggest.
