Newlyweds by Martin Mull
Martin Mull's painting and style speaks of nostalgia for a time perceived to be simpler. Midwest life in the 1950s has a strong bearing on Mull's work, as the painter often juxtaposes cartoon-like characters from our collective imagination against stereotypically wholesome, suburban backgrounds. However, Newlyweds seems a watercolour without irony; can it be that Mull will allow us to settle for a gentler concept of what was or might have been? (And yes, this is the same Martin Mull of the entertainment world.)
