Jason Houston has been photographing farm life for many years, spurred on by the need to focus on the origins of what we eat. He takes a look at small, independently owned and community focused farms in order to raise awareness about the sustainability and vitality of traditional systems. But the narratives put forth by the pictures themselves speak of the art to be found in nature and the lives of those who live close to it. The beauty, as usual, is in the details: the curl of a tail, the dirt under the fingernails and the spray of milk. These are quiet photos of a vivid existence.
