The title of Susan Anderson's new body of work says it all: High Glitz: The Extravagant World of Child Beauty Pageants. Anderson does not direct the subjects of her portraits, choosing instead to let them present themselves. The results speak for themselves. Some will find them highly upsetting, a reflection of values and visions gone awry. Others will take them in stride and perhaps see only the beauty in these girls who trade childhood accoutrements for high glitz. Also included in the series are the "fetishistic objects" of this world: tiaras, trophies, sashes, slippers and such like.
