"Seahorse" by Laura Borchert
Some of Laura Borchert's new work focuses on sea creatures on backgrounds that make them look a lot more earthy than expected. The seahorse looks almost woodsy and the sea turtle, in spite of paddling in some water, gives off an air of making the switch to landlubber. Also included in Borchert's new solo show are studies of sea dwellers such as the harlequin shrimp, the periphylla and the moon jellyfish. Set against dark backgrounds, the colours and details of these paintings stand out very effectively.
