The Regulars is a tight piece of work by photographer Sarah Stolfa, who worked at a Philadelphia bar where she got to know the world of the regulars. So compelled was she by this disparate group of individuals that she pulled out her camera after pulling pints. A watering hole is one of the few places where people on their own can still feel comfortable, and Stolfa captures this succinctly. The result is a series of portraits that reads like a book of short stories. And further enhanced, of course, by a thoughtful introduction by novelist Jonathan Franzen.
