Souther Salazar incorporates mixed media collage techniques within his paintings of animal and human characters in their detailed surroundings. They all seem to be trying simply to get through their days. There is a certain amount of caution on their part; so much is taking place all around them that almost anything could happen. There is a magic to Salazar's work, which also involves two-dimensional pieces such as hot-air balloons made of light bulbs and bottles.
