Naomi Schlinke's recent show, Oceans of Ink, featured a selection of India ink on clayboard pieces. This work reflects Schlinke's background as a dancer, as a choreography of movement takes place on the canvas, as it were. Schlinke creates with an action in mind and the materials play an active role in the process. Oceans of Ink is exactly that: waves, crests and ripples develop out of the colour and patterns. The work is dramatic and exciting, the way a piece of stirring music could be.
