Warsaw artist Jerzy Goliszewski is perhaps better known for his three-dimensional works, but the paint-by-number meets grid effect of his monkey paintings is somehow mesmerizing. These captive monkeys perch on their props while set against a backdrop of wire that keeps them in. Sometimes these cages take on an aspect of a tiled bathroom wall, or perhaps there is a glimpse of sunlight that casts more grids of shadow on the cement squares of the walls. There is no escaping the setting, and the fact that it has contributed to the flatness of the animals.
