Chicken: Low Art, High Calorie by Siaron Hughes is a delightful compendium of all things design-related in the world of mom'n'pop fried chicken. What on earth could this mean? Hughes presents signage, fonts, images and shop front photos of fried chicken outlets that are modelled on the multinational major players of the fast food world. Interspersed with the graphics are photos of the owners and employees, along with quotes that offer some insight into their world. Despite a particularly niche topic such as the graphic design of fried chicken independents, Hughes has successfully put together a book that is humorous, touching and thought-provoking. The vinyl cover is a stroke of genius.
