Rachel Papo's series of photographs of St. Petersburg ballet students is entitled Desperately Perfect. For twelve hours a day, six days a week, these students spend the years from the age of ten until eighteen. Competition is a constant as these dedicated dancers focus on their work at the barre, in the classroom and backstage. Is perfection ever attainable? It may not be, but these ballet students must make it look at though it is the most natural thing in the world.
