Pamela Jorden's paintings are dark abstractions of bold brushstrokes whose movement takes the viewer on the journey throughout the painting. The darkness is not stagnant or matte, but intense and layered, sometimes with a burst of colour that speeds up the otherwise slow, concentrated movement. In her current exhibition at David Patton in Los Angeles, the mostly large-scale paintings are set in contrast to a much smaller one, and the overall effect is one of power, speaking of a confidence rather than emotional darkness.
