Vancouver-based Lorenzo Pepito was another semi-finalist in the RBC Painting Competition. Pepito's entry was an oil painting of a shoebox, that of the Air Morgan, reflecting the artist's view of athletic shoes as art objects. This comes as a result of his childhood in Manila where the access and relationship to shoes was similar to that which most nations might have with art. Then, when pursuing athletic shoes on eBay, Pepito realized that the original shoebox added more value and thus the fascination began.
