There is something surprising about Zhang Hui’s paintings, but surely we have come to expect girls with attitude bigger than their heads by now? Perhaps the punch is packed in the details: the kanji-like scar on the forehead, the heart-shaped pout of the upper lip, the trademark flip. But Zhang Hui’s girls don’t care what we think, they’ll carry on smoking, playing guitar and chatting on the phone regardless.
