Sabine Dehnel’s paintings approach the subject from behind and this delicate way of capturing a moment makes it last longer. The viewer does not feel the need to turn away. Dehnel’s backdrop of tree trunks serves to mask her characters further, as we sense them slipping in and out between the bark, ever more elusive. It is when Dehnel captures them in stillness that we try to figure them out while we can.
