Belgian painter Thomas Mazzarella employs a deceptively naïf style in his works on found wood panel. Mazzarella’s use of bright colours, patterns and simple forms tricks the viewer into accepting the paintings at face value, and only then remarking on their social satire and unusual juxtapositions. Societal excesses and the chaos that surrounds us mix with humour and derision to re-create a certain atmosphere of Gothic frescoes.
