"Beneath the Gaze of the Fruit Bat"
Richard Colman began his career as a graffiti artist, in the Washington area, a start that eventually led to art school and a move to Los Angeles. A shift in perspective occurred when Colman was faced with the realization that his art was no longer of a temporary nature, and his pieces went from public spaces to smaller works of watercolour and ink on paper. His most recent pieces have a lot of similar symbols, a single eye, bats hanging upside down (along with the usual upside down people), brightly coloured triangles and bears in various states.
