"Can We Hold the Rocket From Taking Off?"
Posted by sabine7 Painting | Nov 15, 2007
wangmai_rocket.jpg
Wang Mai’s subjects are those of a world affected by economics, politics and the environment. Technological advances and progress are not necessarily what they are cracked up to be, and the artist gives us his perspective not just in terms of China, but the globe as a whole. The advent of the Olympics also plays a role in these paintings, which make allusion to the mass media machine that feeds the consumer society. And yet, tied into the traditional bamboo and pagodas, there is evidence of stronger roots still present.
