"Moonrise. East. May"
by sabine7 / November 1, 2007
Ugo Rondinone has created a series of twelve nine foot sculptures out of clay, then cast in aluminium and named after the months. The sculptures resemble masks, but their imposing size actually gives the impressions that they are complete entities. The expressions of these Moonrise characters do vary, and indeed from the right distance they seem that, with a little claymation, they could burst into speech, or sighs. They are a simple bunch, but because of their size and numbers, we’d do well to take them very seriously.
