Mike Stilkey uses ink, paint, lacquer and coloured pencil to bring forth a world populated by characters of serious countenance and sharp angles, with a few black birds, busy horses and sleek cats thrown in for good measure. A palette of browns, tans, black, with some red and blue presents a stage set in sepia tones or sometimes black and white. Stilkey’s world is a metropolis of music and nightlife, the kind that dries out your eyes and throat.
