"Portrait of the Son"
Michael Murphenko was born Michael Murphy in Scotland, but fell head over heels for the Ukraine that he took on a new identity. The artist’s paintings are dreamy oils that evoke a soft sense of confusion. Figures float in Murphenko’s scenes, looking as though they might make a move or fade away at a moment’s notice. His recent series is entitled Hilism, which he says is “the philosophy of the heart of the matter, the nucleus - no matter how small or difficult to see, it is the only thing that makes sense.”
