When Ryan Heshka’s illustrations mix retro pin-up girls with aliens, the results are sometimes beetles piggybacking on baby chicks, so Neo-Pulp is a fitting name for his latest show. Heshka camps up lurid covers of traditional pulp fiction paperbacks in fonts and colours that are highly suggestive of a past we wax nostalgic over. Giant bats breathe flames at spacemen, taking them out with the force and modern radiowomen swim around undersea powers. Heshka’s world is eerily enticing.
