Much influenced by Friedrich Casper David, Shibu Natesan’s paintings are colourful slices of life that verge on fantasy. The perspective is quite direct, but the viewer knows there is more to the canvas than what meets the eye. Many of Natesan’s paintings feature animals quite prominently, often in a variety of roles. In the Existence of Instinct, the cocks about to fight are both heroes and victims; the fenced-in geese at the airport of Captured Alive should consider taking flight. But what of the costumed Bear?
