Laurie Simmons: Walking, Talking, Lying
by sabine7 / March 11, 2007
Laurie Simmons: Walking, Talking, Lying is a fine collection of photographs by this fascinating artist. Simmons has created numerous tableaux and installations using dolls and dummies as the protagonists in settings of consumer goods and furnishings, highlighting the recurring theme of our possessions/ourselves. Simmons manipulates these characters as we let ourselves be manipulated by our culture, however, her eerie renditions are much more stylish than our everyday lives. Life does not really play out in a dollhouse, so we should be wary of acting the role of ventriloquist’s dummy.
