Larry Poons’ paintings are exciting. How can they not be? There is so much colour, texture and movement in his new works that it is difficult not to get swept up by them. The titles are glorious – The Lady from Augusta, You Ain’t Lived, Oblique Reunion – feeding the viewer ideas as to the hidden narrative underneath all the layers of paint. At first the stories are not clear, but slowly make their way to the surface via repeated gaze, though still they are elusive because there is so much going on.
