There may be large quantities of people taking part in group activities such as war or banquets or business in paintings by Ian Davis, but they are all seemingly under control. That is exactly what is so worrying. Is there any room or scope for individual thought or action? Even more alarming are the artist’s renditions of Art and Corporation, mass jumbles that meld into a dark heap without soul. Stark ideas, but the style is so precisely compelling.
