Laurie Simmons’ Instant Decorator series of photographs are collages made upon templates taken from a do-it-yourself interior design planner from 1976 by Frances Joslin Gold. Simmons then transports figures cut from fashion magazines, catalogues and sex comics to their tastefully appointed yet not-to-scale interiors where they can proceed to lead wildly social new lives. Women cavort during slumber parties in pink bedrooms while fellas attend bachelor parties in wood-panelled dens.
