Colwyn Griffith is a photographer whose carefully constructed installations in the I Can’t Believe It’s Not Empire series depict sites that can be identified with the notion of empire, be it within a commercial or corporate context, one that is political, or even virtual. Tourist destinations are especially easily recognizable, and as the viewer takes it all in it becomes apparent that Griffith has used all manner of foodstuffs to erect his creations. Relying on the cornucopia of preservatives used by multinationals in their processed food offerings, Griffith makes his point once more.
