"All Sides of a Sphere"
by sabine7 / February 8, 2007

Ilana Crispi’s recent show All Sides of a Sphere was a series of a dozen photos showing her latest ceramic pieces. Crispi adds a variety of seeds, grasses and roots to her clay, so each orb is a unique composition that is then photographed against a plain white background. Some of her spheres are more like basketwork in the process of crumbling or melting, the sphere in decay. The curious effect of this series is that although the artist uses the most organic of materials, and shapes, the resulting spheres seem almost alien in nature.
