Although Philip-Lorca diCorcia is best known for his series on pole dancers, rent boys or strangers in the street, his 2003 project A Storybook Life features photographs of people who have featured somehow in the artist’s own life. Culled from photographs that span thirty years of diCorcia’s career, the pictures that were part of the So the Story Goes exhibition made no mention of the subject, save the location and date of the shoot. All that the viewer knows is that there is some connection to the artist, which in itself is the beginning of an unfinished narrative. The viewer will determine the links and fill in the blanks, connecting the dots as the mind’s eye sees fit.
