One would have to hazard a guess that urethane is Karen Carlo Salinger’s favorite material, as it is a substance this artist employs in most of her sculptures and even some of her paintings. Salinger creates strange organic shapes that seem familiar in some ways, but are really flights of fancy. The viewer is unsure of how to react, with revulsion or mere curiosity, so bizarre are some of Salinger’s offerings. Flesh-coloured blobs sit pickling in jars and distended orbs with leg like appendages lie exhausted on the floor while fleshy bits protrude from a canvas of feathers.
