Makeovers is the name of a new exhibition by Karina Kraenzle, a series of mixed media works symbolic of the anonymity of fashion photography today. Kraenzle, in fact, uses print photography as a base, then disguises the face by way of abstraction. Once satisfied with the embellishment, she mounts the piece to a wooden base, which is then dipped in liquid paraffin in order to further enhance the lack of identity. The result is a ghostly reminder of the image that was once present. Identity is theme under constant examination in Kraenzle’s work.
