Among Steven Beatty’s various talents as an artist are his abilities to highlight current events with watercolours. The daily news serves as inspiration for Beatty who takes brush to photo and adds dimension to the usual black and white and read all over. The use of colour adds depth to both the image and the story it accompanies, as the caption about tofu sausages is enhanced by the attention given to the link workers. The concept of meth mouth is rendered even more frightening when the Charles Manson-like inmate who illustrates the story does so in living (water)colour.
